What I Read This Week – August 2nd

I finished three books this week. Here are my super short but sweet reviews!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I loved the journey this book took me on. I am so glad I started reading her books and that there are still more for me to catch up on!

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Nantucket Restaurant by Pamela Kelley

I always enjoy Pamela Kelley, and this was no exception. This was a great, light-hearted read.

⭐⭐⭐

What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand

This was okay, kept my interest just enough that I do plan to read the third book in the trilogy hoping for some closure.

Plymouth Undercover

If you are looking for a light read for a trip or just a relaxing weekend afternoon, Plymouth Undercover by Pamela Kelley fits the bill. In this cozy mystery, a mother and daughter inherit a PI agency, Court Street Investigations in Plymouth, MA.

Most of the cases revolve around cheating spouses or workman’s comp fakers, but then they get asked to find a missing woman. Very shortly, the woman turns up dead, and now they are investigating a murder.

I really liked both Emma and her mother Cindy, as well as Mickey, the eighty-year-old part-time employee of the agency. The mystery perhaps came together a bit too quickly at the end, but it was still a fun read from an author I enjoy.

The Christmas Inn

If you are looking for a feel-good holiday story as Christmas gets closer, then The Christmas Inn by Pamela M. Kelley is the book for you.  I started reading Kelley’s books in 2021 with The Restaurant and have since read a number of her books. Most of her books are set in the Cape Cod area of the United States, which provides a charming setting no matter the time of year.

In The Christmas Inn, we meet Riley Sanders, who has just lost her job and comes home to the Cape to help her mother with her inn while she looks for another job.  During her stay, we meet several other characters, including a possible love interest, and also get to experience what it’s like to be on the Cape during the holidays.

I read this in one day so I would definitely say that it’s an easy read and also very inviting.
